Kevin Hetrick is entering his 8th year of Pup Running coaching, in addition to coaching several years of Club teams. As a coach, Kevin aims to provide a positive, fun learning experience that lays the foundation for a long term love of the sport. As a runner, he is the only person to win both the Ottawa County, OH 2 mile track meet and the Carmel, IN Ghost and Goblins 5k. Kevin also boasts an undefeated record against 2012 and 2016 Olympic medalist Galen Rupp, having bested Galen at the 2018 Boston Marathon (technically a true story; Mr. Rupp dropped out mid-race on a day that featured 2+ inches of rain, 40 degree weather, and 25 mph headwind).
Alicia Murphy returns to Pup2Pack XC for a 2nd year. A runner since middle school, Alicia competed in cross country and track, qualifying for the Indiana high school state meet, continued her competitive running career at Butler University for a year. She has remained passionate about the sport ever since, completing a marathon and several half marathons. Alicia brings two years experience coaching Smoky Row Pup Running and Pup2Pack XC and enjoys helping young runners build confidence, improve their skills, and discover how much fun running can be. She loves the combination of fitness, competition, and camaraderie that makes running such a unique sport.
Tori Allen has been a runner for 20 years, enjoying the sport for its health benefits and the stress relief. Having always been an athlete, she played tennis and was a competitive swimmer in high school, and has a background in health coaching and personal training in addition to several years of coaching youth running. As a runner, she has completed a marathon, several half marathons, and numerous 5Ks. She especially enjoys the social side of running—from early-morning runs with friends before work to Saturday long runs with Carmel Run Club. Her biggest accomplishment in running, though, is seeing her two kids develop a love of running themselves. She hopes to help kids experience all the great things running has to offer, from the physical and mental benefits to the friendships, fun, and excitement of competition.
Scott Nelson is a first-time coach, but a longtime runner since being compelled to participate in marching band and drum corps during his high school years in Evergreen, Colorado. He continues to run to stay connected with the Carmel community, maintain his health, and preserve his sanity amidst the demands of parenting two daughters and a full-time career as a research engineer. Scott has successfully completed numerous marathons and hundreds of half marathons, but his proudest running achievement is placing in the top 10 of a 5k while pushing his daughter.
